手にすっぽりと収まるほどの小ささながら、Windows 8.1が動くPCということで注目されたのが、「m-Stick」（MS-NH1）。 このスティック型PCが発売されたのが、2014年の今日です。

Cortana may not be the personal assistant she once was, but a new update as part of the Windows Insider Dev Channel means that her capabilities to find files have improved. From a report: The new "File Skill" in the Cortana app appears in the new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20270, part of the Dev Channel. (Dev Channel releases publish test code that may or may not end up in a future release.) In this experimental app, Cortana's skills have been honed to the point where she can find files in the cloud, with a better understanding of what you're looking for. If your PC is enrolled in the Windows 10 May 2020 Update or later, some of these capabilities will already be available. As long as you have speech recognition enabled on your PC, you can ask Cortana "find my recent files," and it should unearth the last two or three files you've used on your PC. What Microsoft is trying with Cortana in this beta is the ability to search corporate SharePoint and OneDrive files stored in the cloud on a work account. (You'll need to be signed into a work account, too.)

Microsoftは11月30日、Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.170.0をWindows Insider Programのベータチャネルで提供開始した(Windows Experience Blogの記事)。

Microsoftでは新しい機能改善を年に2回の大型機能アップデート以外で提供する新しい方法をテストしているのだという。Windows Feature Experience Packを用いることで、OSから独立して開発されている機能やエクスペリエンスの改善を提供可能になる。このような形態で開発されている機能は現在のところ限定的だが、将来的には提供範囲と頻度を拡大し、オプションの更新プログラムの提供プロセスに組み入れてWindows Updateで提供する計画とのこと。

本バージョンでは、Windows+SHIFT+Sキーを押して「切り取り&スケッチ」ツールを実行した場合に切り取った画像を直接エクスプローラー上でフォルダーに貼り付け可能になり、2-in-1デバイスを縦画面で使用している場合にタッチキーボードの2分割モードが使用できるようになる。

Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.170.0はWindows Updateで提供され、Windows Insider Programでベータチャネルを選択したユーザーは更新プログラムのチェックを実行すればインストールできる。なお、インストールにはWindows 10 Insider Preview ビルド19042.662(KB4586853)が必要となり、インストール後には再起動が要求される。

Windows Feature Experience Packは昨年、Microsoft Storeでダミーアプリが公開されて話題になったが、こちらは現在もダミーアプリのままのようだ。

ジャストシステムがWindows版定番ワープロアプリ、一太郎の次期バージョンとして『一太郎2021』を発表しました……

M1チップ搭載Mac上で仮想化されたArm版Windows 10のベンチマーク結果が公開され、本来のArm版Windows 10機であるSurface Pro X（第2世代）を上回る数値が出たと伝えられています。

Windows CentralのZac Bowden氏が情報提供者からの話として、2021年のWindows 10は春(21H1)が小規模なアップデートとなり、UI刷新などを含む大規模なアップデートは秋(21H2)に提供されると報じている(Windows Centralの記事、 Softpediaの記事)。

当初のWindows 10は数か月ごとの機能アップデート提供が計画されており、2015年にはRTMに続いてバージョン1511(コードネーム: Threshold 2)がリリースされた。2016年はバージョン1607(Anniversary Update)だけで終わったが、2017年からは年に2回の機能アップデートが提供されている。ただし、2019年と2020年はそれぞれ2回の機能アップデートが同じサービシングコンテンツを共有し、秋の機能アップデート(バージョン1909と20H2)はイネーブルメントパッケージを実行して新機能を有効化する小規模なアップデートになっている。

Bowden氏の情報提供者によれば、21H1も同様の小規模アップデートになるとのことで、これが正しければ今後のバージョン2004/20H2の更新プログラムには21H1の新機能が無効化された状態で含まれることになる。

Windows Central reports: Microsoft is working on a software solution that would allow app developers to bring their Android apps to Windows 10 with little to no code changes by packaging them as an MSIX and allowing developers to submit them to the Microsoft Store. According to sources familiar with the matter, the project is codenamed 'Latte' and I'm told it could show up as soon as next year. The company has toyed with the idea of bringing Android apps to Windows 10 before via a project codenamed Astoria that never saw the light of day. Project Latte aims to deliver a similar product, and is likely powered by the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL.) Microsoft will need to provide its own Android subsystem for Android apps to actually run, however. Microsoft has announced that WSL will soon get support for GUI Linux applications, as well as GPU acceleration which should aid the performance of apps running through WSL. It's unlikely that Project Latte will include support for Play Services, as Google doesn't allow Play Services to be installed on anything other than native Android devices and Chrome OS. This means that apps which require Play Services APIs will need to be updated to remove those dependencies before they can be submitted on Windows 10.

Appleのクレイグ・フェデリギ氏がArs Technicaのインタビューに対し、ARMベースのM1チップ搭載MacでWindowsを実行できるようになるかどうかは完全にMicrosoft次第だと述べたそうだ(Ars Technicaの記事該当部分、 Mac Rumorsの記事、 On MSFTの記事)。

M1 MacでのWindows実行について尋ねられたフェデリギ氏は、CrossOverを使用すればWINEのようなエミュレーションレイヤー上でx86/x64 Windowsバイナリが実行可能になることを指摘したという。しかし、CrossOverでのWindowsバイナリ実行は、ParallelsやVMwareといった仮想化ソフトウェアをIntel Mac上で実行するのと比べると落差が大きい。

フェデリギ氏によれば、AppleはARM版WindowsをM1 Mac上で実行するためのコア技術を持っており、実際に問題なく実行できると考えているそうだ。ARM版Windowsを実行すれば、x86ユーザーモードアプリケーションの実行もサポートされる。ただし、M1 Mac上でARM版Windowsを使用できるよう、ユーザーにライセンスするかどうかはMicrosoft次第とのことだ。

Tom Warren, writing for The Verge: The PC revolution started off life 35 years ago this week. Microsoft launched its first version of Windows on November 20th, 1985, to succeed MS-DOS. It was a huge milestone that paved the way for the modern versions of Windows we use today. While Windows 10 doesn't look anything like Windows 1.0, it still has many of its original fundamentals like scroll bars, drop-down menus, icons, dialog boxes, and apps like Notepad and MS paint.
